Easton Walled Garden. Part 1

Since our trip to Anglesey Abbey Tallulah has only been out once and that was on the 12th of October when we drove her to Peterborough as we were looking for a new car.

So on Simon's day off, Friday 24th of October we decided to have another day trip.  We went to Easton Walled Garden.

Mileage Start 14688 - End 14725 = 37 miles.

Easton Walled Gardens are the "lost" gardens of Easton Hall which was pulled down in 1951 and the gardens left abandoned.  The gardens which cover 12 acres have been restored since 2001 and the work is ongoing.

The old Hall was the family home of the Cholmeley family for 14 generations and the history is very interesting.  My Merikan friends may be interested to know that they were visited by President Franklin D Roosevelt  when he spent part of his honeymoon at the hall.  He apparently described the gardens as  " A dream of Nirvana...almost to good to be true."

If you are interested you can read more about the history here: Easton Walled Gardens
Here are a selection of photos.
Simon really liked that wrought iron plant support
We both liked the edging on the raised bed here.
Wrought iron thistles.  I want these in my garden.
Absolutely LOVE the giraffes.  Check out the eyelashes.

I have a ton more photos from Easton Walled Gardens.  So that this post doesn't get as long as some of the previous ones, I am going to interrupt it here and put the other photos in a 2nd post!

Anglesey Abbey, Cambridge.

Sunday 28th September. Anglesey Abbey, Cambridge.

Mileage Start 14420 End 14634 = 214 miles

It was another nice, sunny day so we decided to take Tallulah to visit Verity in Cambridge as she hadn't yet seen her.  We arrived mid morning and after a quick coffee we got Jackson's car seat fitted and set off for a visit to Anglesey Abbey.

Anglesey Abbey is a National Trust property.  It is a large Jacobean, country house that was formerly a priory.  It is in the village of Lode.  You can find out more here: Anglesey Abbey  There are 98 acres of beautiful landscaped grounds, ideal for walks on sunny days.  There is also a working mill where you can buy flour.

Here are some photos of the day.

Lunch was important before we got started!
Look at my little cutie pie.  He can crawl now.
The Himalayan Silver Birch Grove was one of my favourite parts.  They were just starting to decorate it for the winter lights.

This is the avenue of trees and is beautiful.  Not sure what the little flowers were but they were so pretty.

Just love this bronze statue as the dogs are so realistic.
Stopping for a rest.

The flower gardens were just lovely even though they were past their best.  I took a ton of close ups. I LOVE flower close ups!  I did try to put them in a slide show but for some reason it wasn't happening.  Anyone able to tell me what you use to make slide shows?  Anyway, as it didn't work I am just going to post some of them here.  Enjoy.
